Celebrating Hawaii's Canoes: O Ke Kai
Outrigger was founded more than 70 years ago in Hawaii, and since our very first day, we’ve always been so proud to share authentic Hawaiian culture with our guests visiting Waikiki today. Through partnerships and programming with our local friends, we're honored to present events throughout the year like the O Ke Kai series.
Though a number of our programs, we’ve pledged our support to further the mission of the Polynesian Voyaging Society’s (PVS) Worldwide Voyage. The O Ke Kai event series supports the continuing efforts of The Friends of Hokule'a and Hawai'iloa to ensure the traditional Hawaiian canoe building and restoration skills are passed on to future generations.
Each event features kids activities with presentations from exciting folks from the Polynesian Voyaging Society, Sustainable Coastlines and more!
For the past few years, we've partnered with Kahala Shirts to create a limited-edition PVS and Outrigger aloha shirt and went to the shores of the East Coast to greet them when Hokulea arrived in New York. The crew even stayed at Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort during their travels in the Indian ocean, and the resort helped them to store and source food for the next leg of their journey!
We continue this partnership today with our O Ke Kai Series - Celebrating Hawaii's Great Canoes as a quarterly event is held at the Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort. We invite you to join us - a warm greeting of aloha awaits you!
