Dive-In Movies & More: The Perfect Saturday in Waikiki Beach

Pictured above: Scenes from our Dive In Movie premier

Whether you’re looking for a long-awaited Hawaii holiday getaway or a local staycation, there’s nothing like an escape to world-famous Waikiki Beach. Here’s our perfect-Saturday shortlist—and with a stay at hotspot Waikiki Beachcomber, you’ll be within walking distance of all our favorites.

    8 a.m. But first, coffee
The ideal vacay day in Waikiki Beach starts with poolside custom-roast coffee at Hawaii's most Instagrammed coffee shop, Hawaiian Aroma Caffe. Try the Yelp-loves Coco-Choco mocha (“it tasted like Haupia pie!”) and fresh, local eats: some of the best açaí bowls on the island, bacon-and-cheese bagels, and loaded waffles like the bacon and truffle-infused honey waffle.

    10 a.m. Hang ten
After breakfast, head to Faith Surf School just around the corner for a lesson in learning to surf the waves of the world-famous Waikiki Beach. Founded by former pro surfer Tony Moniz and his family, the passion of the instructors makes catching your first wave a true aloha experience.

    1 p.m. Paradise in a bottle
The perfect post-surf play? A craft beer and a Hawaiian-comfort-food bite at Hawaii’s largest craft brewery, Maui Brewing Co. Try the Pork Belly Bau paired with the classic Coconut Hiwa porter or the Fried Chicken Katsu Sandwich with the Pueo Pale Ale. And don’t forget about grabbing a growler or crowler (the growler’s 32-oz-can cousin) to take the deliciousness on-the-go.

    4 p.m. Stroll the shops
For the afternoon, stroll the central stretch of Kalakua Avenue that runs parallel to Waikiki Beach for a true dose of Hawaiian culture, from perfectly kitschy souvenir shops and hula performances (and hula free lessons!), to luxe-trendy big box stores at Waikiki Beach Walk and the International Marketplace.

    7 p.m. Dive in
Catch the sunset on Waikiki Beach, then head back to the Beachcomber pool for complimentary Dive-In Movie nights, with weekly screenings of family-friendly movies like "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" and more. Hop in the hot tub while the little ones splash in the pool, or just relax on a daybed with popcorn and cocktails in hand. Want to know what's playing next? Inquire at check-in for details.

9 p.m. Take the elevator home
    No explanation needed.
