Top 5 family activities for a Hawaii Spring Break

It's never too early to start planning for the ultimate Spring Break with the kids! Take advantage of the vacation time with a trip to family-friendly Oahu. It's got all the best of an island getaway — sunny shores, powdery sands, crystalline waters — plus kids-will-love activities just for them.

Check out five of our faves for family spring break fun this year!

    1. Hang 10 at the beach

    Surfing in Waikiki

Waikiki Beach is the best for kids of all ages. Kids can learn to surf, play in the powdery sands (while you get a postcard view of the famous Diamond Head), and even canoe-surf (yes, really!).

    2. Explore a secret island

    Kualoa Ranch

The family-owned and operated private nature preserve Kualoa Ranch is ideal for, well, families. From ATV tours of the filming sites for movies like Jurassic Park to ziplining over the lush landscape to secret-island tours, Kualoa Ranch is a great way to get off the beaten path and embrace a little adventure for all ages.

    3. Bike and savor street food

    Hula Pie dessert

Waikiki is easily bikeable, making it perfect for creating your own street-food tour on two wheels. Check out local staples, from loco moco to spam musubi to paradise-worthy shave ice in flavors like lychee and POG (a blend of passion fruit, orange, and guava juices). Oh, and don't forget the non-street food favorites like the famous Duke's hula pie.

    4. Snorkel-sail with sea turtles

Green sea turtle in front of Diamond Head

You can often catch a glimpse of green sea turtles (the most common on Oahu) at Waikiki Beach in the calm morning hours, but it's even more fun to spot them while swimming. Check out reef sailing tours that let you snorkel alongside these cute creatures — just remember that sea turtles are endangered and it's illegal to touch a sea turtle in Hawaii! Don’t want to get wet? Green sea turtles are often spotted from the beach or the Voyager 47 Club Lounge deck at the Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort.

    5. Take a break from the beach for a little museum culture

    Iolani Palace

Take a break from hitting the beach and learn about the history of Hawaii. Step back in time with a visit to the official residence of Hawaii’s monarchy, Iolani Palace. A tour of Pearl Harbor can also be great, and the Bowfin Submarine tour is a hands-on experience (note that hopping on board the submarine is allowed for kids age 4 and up only).
