New Year's Eve Insider: Where to Watch Fireworks in Waikiki

The fireworks in Waikiki Beach are among the most brilliant displays in the Pacific, and because of Hawaii's location, Waikiki is the last location in the world to light up the night sky. The extravagant Waikiki Beach fireworks begin with one colorful, fiery burst launched each minute from a barge in the water fronting Waikiki Beach at Canoe's surf break, beginning at 11:55 pm—then the real show begins promptly at midnight.

With so many viewing locations to choose from, the hardest part is picking the best one. Here's our guide to the top places to watch the famous Waikiki Beach fireworks.

    Watch from Sea or Sand

You can see Waikiki Beach fireworks all along the beach, but it gets crowded quickly, especially in front of the barge at Canoe’s surf break, so it’s best to get there early to pick a prime spot. If you want a front-row seat but also want to avoid the crowded beach, watch the show Hawaiian style: floating just offshore on a kayak or surfboard in front of the beach.

    Picnic in the Park

Families may enjoy setting up a blanket picnic-style at one of Waikiki's grassy parks like Kapiolani Park. Located at the east end of Waikiki Beach near Diamond Head, the park is the largest in Honolulu and offers plenty of grassy spots for watching fireworks.

Kuhio Beach has a smaller, scenic park popular with locals in the know. It’s closer to the fireworks station than Kapiolani but remains relatively uncrowded most days. Beach chairs are available for rent near the lifeguard station, but get there early as it’s first come, first served.

    Party from the Tower

For a big, come-one, come-all kind of party, Aloha Tower Marketplace has a “Party of the Year” that has great DJs, lots of stages and views of the fireworks as well.

    Get the VIP Treatment

For the best of the best for New Year's Eve, you’ll find one of the most stunning views at the new Voyager 47 Club Lounge at Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort. Overlooking Waikiki Beach and the world-famous “Pops” surf break, their award-winning lounge features stunning views of the fireworks, total VIP service, and premium libations, all located at ground central for the NYE fireworks in Waikiki Beach.

Exclusively for guests who reserve a suite or Voyager 47 Club room, the Voyager 47 Club Lounge is the ultimate VIP experience. Party in style to ring in the new year, and then simply take the elevator up to your Outrigger Voyager Club room. For New Year's Day, sleep in 'til brunch, and start the new year off right, relaxing the day away on iconic Waikiki beach.
