5 Local Food Favorites on Maui Back to all stories

5 Local Food Favorites on Maui

There’s no better way to discover a place than through its food. On Maui, there’s a bounty of fresh, local flavors within reach, from tropical fruits to sustainably-sourced seafood. Since sharing is in the spirit of aloha, these five favorites are the best places to go for local food in Maui.

    1. Stop for a Sweet or Savory Pie at Leoda’s

This family-style cafe and bakery is the first stop for many upon landing on Maui. Leoda’s menu is packed with what they call “glorified grandma comfort food," like freshly-baked bread, house-smoked ham, and indulgent mac ‘n cheese.

Insider Tip: Never leave Leoda’s without one of their famous sweet or savory mini pies, like the popular Banana Cream. Double your order so you can enjoy one on the spot and take one to-go.

    2. Sip Fresh Lavender-Infused Lemonade at Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm

There’s a little piece of Provence in the middle of Maui. Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm features over 20 varieties of lavender, many in bloom year-round, along with olive trees, Protea, hydrangea, and other gorgeous plants.

Insider Tip: The lavender-infused lemonade is a must-try. Visitors are welcome to explore the farm Friday-Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

    3. Feast on Local Favorites at the Kihei Food Truck Park

The food truck scene on Maui is booming, and you’ll find many of the most-loved stops around Lahaina and Kihei. Fresh tuna poke bowls and tropical fruit smoothies are especially popular—perfect for a quick snack on the go.

Insider Tip: Head to the Kihei Food Truck Park at 1 Piikea Avenue for the widest range of cuisines. Grab a picnic table and feast on fish tacos from Da Nani Pirates or southern-style BBQ from Sol Brothers.

    4. Drink Local at Maui Brewing Company’s Kihei Flagship

Now one of Hawaii's biggest craft brewers, Maui Brewing Co. (MBC) has its roots firmly planted on Maui. Their Kihei headquarters is a lively brewery, taproom, and restaurant. Stop in and try their craft beers or canned cocktails, all infused with local ingredients like pineapple, coconut water, and passionfruit.

Insider Tip: With so many flavors in the lineup, your best bet is to start with a craft beer flight and sample all four of MBC’s top drafts.

    5. Try a Top-Secret Treat at Tasaka Guri Guri Shop

Maui locals are a little bit addicted to this signature frozen dessert. Somewhere between ice cream and sherbet, the exact recipe for guri guri is a closely-guarded Tasaka family secret.

Insider Tip: The only two flavors on the menu are strawberry and pineapple—but they’re even better when blended together.
