5 Maui Adventures for a Secluded Holiday in Paradise

There has never been a time when island breezes were calling so many quite so clearly. While the way we travel has changed, the natural beauty of Maui remains untouched by anything beyond the ancient tectonics that shaped it. Here's a look at the "new" bucket list for a vacation in the Valley Isle that will distance you from everything except paradise.

Take a Road Trip on the Famed Road to Hana

Keeping your distance from the crowds is no problem on the Road to Hana - an iconic 64-mile stretch of waterfall-lined, lush highway. This is very much a "choose your own adventure" type of excursion because you'll have everything from fruit farms to quiet beaches to explore as you make your way from attraction to attraction. There are many stops along the way that allow you to check out some of Maui's most charming sites.

The stunning Ho'okipa lookout is a great place to watch skilled surfers from the sidelines. If the urge for refreshment hits, simply look for one of the cart vendors serving up fresh coconut. At nighttime, Hawaiian green sea turtles take over the sand here. If you're looking for some other stunning and secluded spaces to hit up along the Road to Hana, don't miss Twin Falls, Upper Waikani Falls, the Hana Lava Tube, Koki Beach and Laulima Farm.

    Explore Expansive Haleakala National Park

Haleakala National Park is the ultimate spot if it's wide, open spaces you're seeking. It doesn't get much more distanced than this beautiful park covering 30,000 acres. Situated more than 10,000 feet above sea level, Haleakala is famous for being home to the largest dormant volcano on the planet. This park also offers access to the hiking trails within Kipahulu's bamboo forest.

    Go Whale Watching

From December through April, more than 10,000 humpback whales make the incredible journey from the Gulf of Alaska to the beautiful shores of Hawaii to birth their offspring before making the return loop home. Visitors can witness the majesty from Maui's Auau Channel during the special window each year. This amazing experience can be enjoyed from the shore, by boat, on a canoe, or from a paddleboard.

    Take Advantage of Outdoor Dining

There are great options for grab-and-go meals when you're exploring attractions around Maui. Just keep an eye out for smoothie vendors offering tropical concoctions bursting with the island's own pineapples, guavas, bananas and mangoes. Maui is also very much a part of the food-truck revolution, with great choices like poke with tuna and sweet, juicy Maui onions harvested on the slopes of Mount Haleakala.

How Will You Make Maui Feel Like Your Private Paradise?

For your soul, Maui offers warm waves and sweeping volcanic landscapes. For your body, Maui offers endless fresh fruit and vitamin D. The verdict? There's no better place to go than Maui when you want to feel like you have an island to yourself while still feeling more connected to people and nature than ever before.

Are you looking for the perfect place for your tropical escape? Or maybe a family-friendly Maui resort? Outrigger has several accommodations to choose from on Maui, all spread across acres of lush foliage, so you'll have plenty of space to practice social distancing and find a quiet respite from the world.

    Your next vacation awaits.
