Kualoa Ranch Private Nature Reserve is home to 4,000 acres from mountain to the sea on the windward side of Oahu. Its goal is to protect and enhance the natural beauty of these lands while developing sustainable, recreational, agricultural and aqua-cultural enterprises that are compatible with the environment.
You can help protect this invaluable attraction with this 2-hour eco-adventure that includes various types of community service and cultural learning experiences from land to sea.
Malama ka Aina (care for the land)
Guests will hear about the importance of caring for the upland ahupuaa streams as they feed the loʻi down the valley. Learning about how important kalo was to the Hawaiian people for sustenance and how Kualoa is mentioned in the 2,000 year-old Kumulipo genealogical chant as being where the first kalo sprung to life. Also learning about the various laau lapaau (medicinal plants) that grow in the area and their uses. Guests will also learn about micro-plastics and their effects on the ocean, the importance of using reef-safe sunscreen and Kualoaʻs efforts to monitor coral in Kaneohe Bay.
Appropriate beach wear is needed. Guests will be able to shower and are encouraged to bring a change of clothes for those that will want to work in the loi.
Pahalona and Molii pond are both located on the shores of Kaneohe Bay.
